Colombo Mano Base is a natural substrate which can be used as a top layer in every aquarium, from beginner to specialist.

As opposed to solid gravel, Mano Base is open and light in particles as well as in structure. The open particles allow rapid and massive colonisation by beneficial bacteria, which are vital for the stability of the water quality.

The open structure allows optimal plant rooting and water penetration so no suffocation of the soil will occur.

As Colombo Mano Base is made out of natural clay sources, it has the beautiful natural look you want in your aquarium. Its particles are rounded and relatively soft, so bottom dwellers won’t damage their soft barbels.

Like clay, Mano Base can store nutrients when these are in excess present in the water, and releases these nutrients again when the levels drop. Thereby Mano Base enables optimal plant growth and thus reduces algae blooming.

Natural Soil
Colombo Mano Base is a natural soil with an open structure, which allows optimal plant growth. The particles have an open pore structure for optimal bacterial colonisation. As it is made from natural clay, it can store and release nutrients to the water.

Instructions for use:

For optimal plant growth and long-term fertilisation, start with placing a layer of plant substrate, e.g. Colombo NutriBase.
Distribute Mano Base over the tank bottom in a layer of at least 5 cm. Let the layer slightly increase in thickness towards the back, in order to create an extra depth-effect.
Fill the aquarium for 30% with tap water of 20-25°C. Take care not to disturb the soil too much e.g. by pouring the water on a plate.
Place all plants, stones, wood, and other decorations. Start with tall plants at the back and work to the front with lower plants for more depth-effect.
Finally, the aquarium can be completely filled and is ready for use.

Mano Base is only suitable for freshwater aquaria. Mano Base is available in two colours: red and black, in 5 and 10 litre bags. The particle diameter is 1-2 mm.

Wash the Mano Base well in running lukewarm tap water to flush out all dust particles. Repeat at least 3 times.
