Paludra 60
Setting up your paludarium:
Choose an appropriate location for the paludarium. The location should be relatively dark, for example in the corner of a room. The paludarium should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Too much light will lead to unwanted algae and may harm the plants in the paludarium as a result of overheating.
Place the paludarium on a flat, smooth, level, and sufficiently load-bearing surface. Do not place the paludarium on electrical appliances or on furniture with water-sensitive surfaces.
Rinse the paludarium, the pump, hoses, and filter foam thoroughly with tap water.
To prevent scratches, only use a SuperFish Algae Sponge (art. A4040025); Do not use a regular sponge!
Never use detergents or alcohol. Dry the paludarium with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent scratches.

Installation
Slide the Eco LED lighting into the clips at the top of the paludarium (DO NOT press the lighting into the clips to avoid damage) and route the cable through one of the openings at the rear of the paludarium.
Always read the instruction manual of the Eco LED lighting before use!
The lighting can be dimmed with the separately available SuperFish LED Controller (art. A4020200).

Connect the supplied hose to the outlet of the Aqua Power pump. Insert the Aqua Power pump into the filter box from the rear and route the hose through one of the three hose openings.
Always read the instruction manual of the Aqua Power pump before use!
Fill this space with SuperFish Aqua Plant Substrate (art. A8050190), clay pebbles, or a coarse gravel with a size between 3–8 mm (e.g. SuperFish Aqua Gravel coarse), according to preference, and also cover the filter foam with a layer approximately 2 cm thick.
Important: Always rinse the substrate, clay pebbles, and/or gravel thoroughly in a completely clean bucket before use.

Cover this layer in the land section with Colombo Flora Base Pro Coarse (art. A5010065) up to the top of the divider. Never use a fine nutrient substrate, as this will clog the filter foam.
Important: Do NOT rinse Colombo Flora Base Pro. Any discoloration of the water will disappear within a few days.
Apply also a thin layer of nutrient substrate (e.g. Colombo Nutri Base, art. A5010030) in the water section if aquarium plants will be used.
Do NOT rinse Colombo Nutri Base.

Cover the layer of nutrient soil in the water section with a thin layer of gravel (e.g. SuperFish Aqua Gravel).
The total substrate layer must not exceed 2 cm in height, so that the inlet opening in the divider remains unobstructed for proper water circulation.
Decoration
Create the hardscape in the land section using stones or decorative wood to conceal the filter box from view. Use filter wool or foam to support the stones and prevent scratches or possible breakage.
Create a waterfall using the hose or route the hose through the opening in the divider to create water circulation.

Slowly fill the paludarium with clean tap water at approximately 20°C.
Placing a plate in the water section beneath the water stream will prevent the gravel or nutrient substrate from being disturbed. Fill the water section to approximately 1.5–2 cm below the rim.
Test the water circulation/waterfall by switching on the pump (plug the power cord into a wall socket). The water circulation continuously filters the water.

Once the water circulation is functioning properly, the paludarium can be decorated with plants.
Suitable aquarium plants can be used in the water section.
The land section can be planted with small houseplants, terrarium plants, and/or marsh plants. The type of plant depends on whether it will be placed in wetter or drier areas.

Shrimp can optionally be kept in the paludarium.
First add a water conditioner (Colombo Aqua Start, art. A5010900) to remove harmful substances and protect the shrimp.
Also add a bacterial culture (Colombo Bacto Start, art. A5010905) to start and maintain the biological filter.
Test the water (Colombo Aqua Quicktest, art. A5020290) and correct any unsuitable water parameters.
The paludarium must run for at least 2 weeks before shrimp can be introduced. After introducing the shrimp, test the water every 2 days for 2 weeks and correct any unsuitable water parameters. Thereafter, always test the water quality weekly.

Maintenance
Replace 20% of the water in the paludarium every week and clean the gravel and the glass at the same time.
To prevent scratches, only use a SuperFish Algae Sponge (art. A4040025); do not use a regular sponge.
Ensure that the replacement water has the same temperature as the water in the paludarium. After every cleaning, add a water conditioner (e.g. Colombo Aqua Start, art. A5010900) and a bacterial culture (e.g. Colombo Bacto Care, art. A5010915).
